Why You Should Model Successful People

There’s a concept floating around whereby you can achieve the level of success you dream of by modelling a high-achiever who already has exactly what you want.

You can learn a lot from others who are very successful. It’s not about copying someone like Richard Branson or Oprah Winfrey to the point where it’s just plain weird. Instead, it’s about modelling the same behaviour, mindset and even actions that got them to where they are today.

If you know someone who has achieved great success doing something that you dream of doing one day, it’s a good idea to try and replicate the actions and steps they took to get them there.

So, keep reading to discover why (and how) modelling successful people can help accelerate your own success in your business and beyond…

 

A Real-Life Example…

To give you a better idea of how this whole modelling thing works, I’m going to share a short story about the origins of Mi-TV.

The inspiration for Mi-TV was NBTV by Nigel Botterill, who is one of the most sought-after business growth experts in the UK. I mean, the man has built nine different million pound businesses in less than 12 years!

I loved what he was doing with NBTV. So much so, that I wanted to do something similar in my own business. Something that would inspire business owners in the same way that NBTV inspired me to grow Mi-PA.

Every Wednesday when Nigel would post a new episode of his show, I was one of the first people to watch it. The videos lasted for around five minutes or so and each episode, although short, was packed with lots of amazing tips and advice for entrepreneurs to grow their businesses.

I saw what worked for him and I identified how I could apply it to my own business. I knew that there was a massive gap in my industry for this sort of thing and I wanted to be the one to fill it.

So, I created Mi-TV and I would say that it’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my business. It has helped elevate my brand and my expert profile in the industry. It’s helped us attract and retain clients and everyone’s always telling me how much they love and look forward to the show each week.

But, Mi-TV wouldn’t exist without NBTV. It was ultimately down to being able to look at somebody else’s success, taking the idea and molding it into something new that worked for me and my business.

 

Why Model Successful People?

Tony Robbins talks a lot about how successful people leave clues. Clues that are meant to be discovered by people like you, who dream of emulating their success.

In his book, Unlimited Power, Tony says; “If you want to achieve success, all you need to do is find a way to model those who have already succeeded.”

Modelling successful people is one of the quickest and easiest ways to make dramatic changes in your business. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel and think of new things over and over again. If there’s a business owner or entrepreneur that you admire, they’re likely to be leaving a trail of clues to reveal what has worked for them and helped them achieve their incredible success.

There’s nothing stopping you from taking those clues and implementing them in your own life and business, just like I have done with Mi-TV.

Have you ever heard the saying that you’ll only be as successful as the five people you spend the most time with?

So, surround yourself with driven people who are after or have achieved the same level of success that you aspire to. That’s why it’s so important to surround yourselves with switched on individuals, people that you can learn from because they’ve been through the same experiences and can give you advice on things have already worked well.

If there’s somebody who has done something that you know can help you move your business forward, there’s nothing wrong with molding and deploying similar actions or steps in your own business.

After all, we learn from others. When we were little, we learned how to walk and talk by looking at our parents and mimicking them. In the same way, if you want to grow a successful business, you’ve got to learn from people who have already done it.
